When tasked to design this guest house from the ground up, we were ready for the challenge. Our clients wanted something practical, unique, modern and earthy. We started by selecting different textures in the finishes to bring the warmth - walnut, concrete, terrazzo and brass were layered throughout. We opted for all open shelving in the kitchen with integrated LED lighting. We designed these custom terrazzo kitchen countertops by choosing the base color and the exposed aggregate throughout. We contrasted this textural surface with the alternating matte and glossy stacked subway tile in the kitchen. We incorporated cane in the counter stools and living room tv stand.
The retro lighting is apparent throughout the guest house. The bedroom stayed simple and serene with the remote-controlled sconces over the night stands, soft bedding and palm leaves. The bathroom features a floating concrete vanity with integral sink and shelf below for storage. The retro black and white tile, jumbo pendants and round walnut mirror give this bathroom so much personality. We integrated an LED in the shower shampoo niche for an added luxurious feel for guests. For the office, we chose hardwood flooring, custom cabinetry and concrete countertops with a brass inlay in the waterfall. The backsplash is cork, therefore, functional and aesthetically pleasing. The acrylic and brass ceiling fan is a show stopper here. It’s a home that feels sleek and cool, but still approachable. We think it’s a perfect embodiment of our signature warm modern aesthetic.
