SCANDINAVIAN MODERN DESERT
Three words: Scandinavian. Modern. Desert. This is a special project because this also happens to be Kaitlyn's home, our owner + principal designer of Iconic Design+Build. If this style resonate's with you, then we are an aesthetic match as this is our signature style. Scandinavian design is a design movement characterized by simplicity, minimalism and functionality that emerged in the early 20th century, and subsequently flourished in the 1950's. Modern design consists of neutral colors, clean design lines and environmentally-friendly materials. Desert modern style refers to California boho eclectic decor, a lot of mix and matching different patterns, mud-cloth pillows, rugs, in different layers.
This home was built in 1993, just down the street from Taliesin West, the home of the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright from 1937 until 1959. You'll notice the tribute to Frank Lloyd Wright in the gallery wall of the guest bedroom. To really appreciate this project, we encourage you to scroll to the "Pre-Renovation Gallery" photos. We took down a wall separating the kitchen and living room which completely changed the feel of the space. This home was an entire gut: new flooring, baseboards, paint, custom cabinetry, countertops, tile, lighting, appliances, plumbing, you name it! In the kitchen, we were able to keep the existing cabinetry by having them professionally painted to match the new color scheme. Some of the wall cabinets had to come down when we removed the wall, which we re-purposed as a bar in the formal dining room. We incorporated custom steel work in the kitchen with the floating shelves and with the steel paneled wall in the master bedroom. We incorporated a custom concrete/terrazzo bar top in the dining room as well as a concrete vessel sink in the guest bath. This home is full of surprises and we're positive every time you look at the photos, you'll notice a new detail you didn't see before.
